  90. the /125 stations celebrating Hiram P. Maxim's 125th birthday.

  92. Now, here is something I hadn't known before: take a look at
  93. the "50 and 100 Years Ago" column in the September 1994 issue
  94. of Scientific American.
  95.  
  96. The September *1894* issue of the Scientific American announced 
  97. that a Mr. Hiram Maxim had built a steam powered plane, which 
  98. unfortunately, tore itself apart upon leaving ground on July 1894.  
  99. It, however, made history by being the first powered flight to 
  100. leave ground.
  101.  
  102. The Old Man must not have quite reached his 25th birthday when
  103. he attempted powered flight!  This might explain why so many Hams 
  104. are also pilots.

  256. I'm very excited about getting into Amateur Radio. One of the MAJOR reasons
  257. why I started up the hobby is so that I can remotely controll my 486 dx 50
  258. from a small 8086 palmtop PC remotely(through a 2 meter HT). After studying
  259. for the test, I noticed one question's answer saws that you are "NEVER"     
  260. allowed to have an unattended transmitter. On the other hand it expressly
  261. states that in the 2 meter band, remote access is allowed. I don't get it!
  262. Does this mean I can or cannot have my PC unattended doing either DATA or
  263. what I hope to be the first to design, Voice recognition and artificial   
  264. intelligence(sorta like the well hatted "BOTS" on IRC, only now on 2M HAM :)
  265. I will only have a Novice licence when I start this, I'm going to test for
  266. technitian plus but I haven't studied the Tech stuff enough(element 3 ques.)
  267. Please E-mail me back so I know what to work around.

  269. P.S. for those techies out there, I've modified some pagers to operate off
  270. the 144Mhz range and I plan to use them as Radio Modems, I figure that a 
  271. pager would have EXCELENT resistance from noise and reliable high speed
  272. capabilities (It also puts out a perfect serial signal if ya tap the  
  273. processor) Nice way to give pagers to the whole pamily w/o paying the local
  274. pager companies.

  335. 40M - mostly 5 by 7 with a bit of qsb - best I've heard so far in Adelaide.

  356. Hi Gary, maybe this wasn't an info-hams inquiry at all. Info-hams
  357. stuff is posted to and from the netnews groups and almost all netnews
  358. newsreaders are capable of extracting the return address from netnews
  359. postings. If you don't get a real internet account, you will be
  360. forced to live with corrupted addresses... it is not the fault of
  361. the poster.
